Phase 1 Design was founded by Michael Kinnunen in March of 2001. Michael has extensive experience in the signage & construction industry, environmental graphics & large format printing. Work areas of experience include various design projects, computer graphics, design and engineering of signs, implementation of design strategies, and finished artwork for permitting & shop construction. He has received multiple international design awards along with local Washington state awards. His designs have been published in various trade magazines including Signs of the Times and Sign Builders Illustrated. Some of his clients & projects worked on have been Disney’s Animal Kingdom (Florida), Seattle Space Needle renovation (Seattle), Universal Studios City Walk (California), Starbucks, Seattle’s Best Coffee, Tully’s Coffee, One Cup Coffee, Washington Mutual, Pacific Place Mall, Benaroyal Hall, BP, Associated Grocers, Washington State Convention Center, University of Washington Husky Stadium, Seahawks Century Link Field (Seattle), Mariners Safeco Field (Seattle), Key Arena (Seattle), Columbia Tower food court, Crossroads Mall restaurants, The Armory (Seattle Center, Space Needle). Branding has always been an enthusiastic passion.  Signage and environmental graphics have been lifelong interests. Restaurant design has been a specialty and have designed & built numerous restaurants in the Seattle area.
